Seed Potatoes

                     Planting Guide

Potatoes do best in a soil that is slightly acidic.  This will help keep disease problems down.

Set your potato pieces in trenches and space them 8”-10” apart.  Cover with about 2”soil.

Plant rows about 3-4’ apart.

When your plants emerge 3”-5”, cover again.  Repeat this until you have a hill approximately 1 ft high.

Rock Phosphate can be applied at planting, right in the trench, this will not burn your potatoes.

During the growing season, you can side dress with a 5-10-10 fertilizer.

Keep your eyes open for Colorado potato beetles or any beetles that might munch on your foliage.

Stay on top of them by handpicking or using a garden spray or dust.

Harvest your potatoes when the plants begin to die back.  Don’t be afraid to cheat a little, and harvest

some nice small tender potatoes before then.  Enjoy !
