protecting your Fruit Trees
Early Spring is the time for applying DORMANT spray oil like "Oil and Lime Sulfur" Spray on your fruit and shade trees. Spray Oil smothers insects such as aphids, mites and scale that over winter in the bark of the tree. Spray Oil can be used while the tree is dormant, in green tip or during growing season. Oil and Lime Sulfur Spray has the advantage of helping control over wintering plant diseases but must be used ONLY while the tree is completely dormant, otherwise it can result in injury to new growth including leaf drop.
For an "All Season" spray, there is Bonide Fruit Tree Spray. You can apply this spray to your fruit trees when insects are present or as a preventative for disease and scale damage.
As with any chemical control you always want to use the manufacturers' instructions for application rates for particular varieties of trees and shrubs and follow all listed safety precautions.
